 Meet Luann Williams from The Fussy Cut Shoppe...

I have been sewing since I was nine years old and I love creating beautiful items on my sewing machine!  My passion is inspired by the lure of  good quality cottons, bold colors, and themed prints! I am always enamored by the finished product!  I work out of my home and the Fussy Cut Shoppe is now in its fifth year.

This is my third Avant-Garde show and I will take on sewing projects for clients if you have something specific in mind. The Fussy Cut Shoppe offers pouches in all shapes and sizes, glasses cases, kids' chef aprons and everyday placemats.

Pouches organize everything!  Each is great for holding manicure supplies, necessities at work or small toys for children in the car, waiting room, or restaurant. Organize your drawer, suitcase, diaper bag, or purse!

Choose a flat or boxy bottom pouch and add a gift card, box of candy, or piece of jewelry for a fun gift. Add crayons, markers, crafts, toys and small books for a great child's gift.

Meet Dani Horowitz from Tickle Me Pink...

My name is Dani Horowitz. I’m from Florida but have lived in Ohio the past 9 years with my husband and our two amazing boys! I love coffee, reading, and anything Disney. I have had my company for almost a year! It’s been a fun journey and I’m still learning all I can.

The Fairlawn show will be my first ever appearance at a show, and I’d love to go to more shows in the future! I'm inspired to continue creating by my family. They’re so supportive and I’m so grateful to have them!

I’ve always been a crafty person, but I’ve seen countless videos on how to do stained glass and, since then, I’ve been hooked! I continued being persistent, trying new things, and just having fun making things I like. 

My creative process includes lots of caffeine and loud music! I have so much fun working on my projects, and suncatchers don’t judge me for horrible singing and dancing! 

Tickle Me Pink is an expression for being amazed and excited, and I want everyone to feel that way when they see my things! I hope in five years my business will be thriving and I would love to have an actual studio. I would also be interested in starting a “make your own” kind of place in my community. 

Meet Suzanne Appel from Swag In A Bag...

As artists, we are deeply inspired by the potential for transformation found in everyday objects. Through the process of decoupage, we take discarded and overlooked items—such as full or empty alcohol and oil bottles, pumpkins, and ornaments—and breathe new life into them. These objects, once destined for the trash or relegated to obscurity, are given a new purpose, becoming vibrant works of art that invite reflection on beauty, sustainability, and the power of reinvention.

The act of decoupaging, where we layer paper or napkins onto these surfaces, allows us to create intricate, textured compositions that blend old and new. We carefully select each piece of imagery to tell a story—whether it’s a floral pattern that evokes nature, designs that hint at nostalgia, or bold colors that evoke celebration and joy. The materials themselves—often glass or ceramic—offer their own set of challenges and possibilities, making every project a new adventure in form and texture.

We find beauty in the intersection of functionality and aesthetics, where something as simple as a bottle or pumpkin can become an unexpected piece of art. Whether it’s a festive ornament for the holidays, a beautifully adorned bottle, or a whimsical pumpkin centerpiece, each piece is meant to evoke a sense of joy and appreciation for the beauty that can be found in the most ordinary things. Ultimately, creativity is limitless, and art can be found in every corner of our world—even in the objects we least expect.

Meet Jessica Untch of Revelry Creative Workshop...

Here is some background info on me and my business for your promotional materials. Thank you so much for doing this! I will definitely be distributing a lot of flyers and posting on social media.

I grew up in Malvern, Ohio, which is located in rural Carroll County, and spent most of my youth doing two things- being outdoors and making artwork. When I reached the age to choose a career path and go off to college (which was over 20 years ago already!), it didn't seem logical to pursue an art degree because, "what could you really do with it?" back then...

That was before the multitude of opportunities that came with the internet and platforms like Etsy, Facebook, and Pinterest. 

I started Revelry Creative Workshops in April of 2020 when I finally decided to act on my lifelong desire to steer my career in a more artistic direction. I have a Master’s Degree in Adult Education and have been teaching high school equivalency for over ten years, but I wanted to combine my love of doing creative projects with my skills in teaching others. Revelry is a synonym for joy, and it was chosen because the mission of the business is to give others an opportunity to create, learn, and be happy.

Starting a workshop business during the midst of the pandemic was tricky, so I began by selling DIY craft kits on Etsy, then branched out to offering Zoom workshops, virtual fundraisers, and eventually face-to-face classes in the Medina area. Meet Heather Soussou of Susus Sews..

My name is Heather, I've been a Clevelander all my life and can’t imagine being anywhere else. My love of animals and a full home has led me to have 3 fur baby’s that my fiancé and I have rescued as strays. In my free time I enjoy movies, game nights and a good Italian meal. I’m a karaoke junkie and love to sing and dance. More than anything I love being home with my family, binging the newest and latest Netflix series. 

How long have you been doing this for? I started my business at the evening of quarantine. I was laid off from my job in the steel industry, knowing I wasn’t passionate about that career path I decided to take things into my own hands and start Susu Sews. 

What inspires you to create? Pinterest lol just kidding... kinda. But really, what inspires me to create is crafting and designing something that is totally mine from start to finish. I love using my hands and look forward to being able to use my creative side for each and every project. 

What got you into the craft hobby? I started sewing when I was a teenager but like most teenagers I gave it up to pursue hanging out w my friends. As an adult I picked the hobby back up and also learned a few new tricks along the way such as crocheting, knitting and alterations. 

How did you discover your talent? Middle home ec class originally but as an adult I discovered it by practicing a lot once I was laid off and had free time. 

How would you describe your creative process? My creative process is different and varies from project to project. Sometimes it starts with a vision board and honestly a lot of times I dream about projects and wake up w new ideas! 

Where do you see yourself in 5 years with your business? Ideally, I would love to have a store front boutique where I carry my items plus dozens of other local creators :) 

What is the message behind your work? Comfy meets trendy. I want my work to ooze comfy, cozy vibes. I would like my work to feel unique yet familiar.  

Meet Laurel Kabat of L & L Accessories...

My name is Laurel and I’m the owner of L & L Accessories. I’m from MN and graduated from the University of Minnesota and have lived in Cleveland for over 3 years. I have a 1 year old golden retriever puppy named Leo - which is where the inspiration for L & L came from! L & L has been up and running for 2 months!

What inspires me.. Seeing friends and family wearing our bandanas and scrunchies! We love sharing our creations with everyone and seeing photos!

What got me into the craft hobby was actually the crazy amount of $$ I spent on a bandana for Leo, how long it took, and the quality wasn’t too great. I knew that if I could teach myself to sew, I could make better quality and affordable bandanas!

I discovered my talent by going on a whim, buying a sewing machine, and practicing! 

My creative process is pretty simple - I try to find fabric patterns that most people would like and going from there!

In 5 years I hope my business has taken off all over Cleveland, and maybe even the US! I think it would be fantastic if I could use L & L as a reliable part of my income!

I want to share my love for creating affordable and quality, handmade bandanas and scrunchies for you and your dog!

It's Show Week!

 Meet Julie Huffman and Jacque from jac & jul... 

We are Mother and daughter-in-law. We are together just about every day working on pieces. We have different ideas but everything we do just comes together and shows both of our strengths and creativity.

We started around August/September of 2019 (it’s taken off quite nicely) This will be our first time participating in the Avant Garde shows. We’re very excited.

What inspires us to create.. When we make a custom piece for someone and they love it, sometimes it brings tears to their eyes-it just makes us want to do more and more. We got into our craft by personally wanting unique pieces of jewelry

How we discovered our talent.. Just by doing it. We both have areas of designing and creating that we prefer and excel in. We allow each other to apply our strengths. But every piece we do has both of our work and creativity in it. Together our talents flow nicely to create an end product

When it comes to the creative process,we honestly do what the silverware guides us to do. It just sort of Happens. Jacque names every one of our pieces.

Our five year goal.. hopefully we just grow and continue to have clients that love what we do. Eventually (julie) wants to retire from real estate! (that will be about 10 years though)

The message behind our work.. We repurpose family silverware (that’s shoved down in a basement or garage, not being used) we make special unique pieces (necklaces, bracelets, rings) that they can give to family members to wear enjoy “great grandmas” silver. It’s so great. People love it. It give something that was once treasured, new life and meaning. It becomes treasured again! At times we do money clips, key rings, & bottle openers for men. We also take silver coins and make into rings. Both men and women enjoy those!

Meet Heather Taylor from Glitter Girl Vinyl...

I’m a proud Mom of one son, Alex and one pretty kitty, Pearl. I love crafting, going to concerts and spending time with my family and friends.

I’ve owned GlitterGirl Vinyl for almost 5 years! This will be my 5^th show with Avant-Garde and I love them!

What inspires me to create.. Crafting helps me relax and I love creating custom pieces for friends and family. I also enjoy all things nerdy and have a ton of nerd-centric pieces available in my Etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/gittergirlvinyl

How I got into my craft.. My father loved doing crafts and woodworking, so it was always part of my life. Now that he’s gone, I proudly carry on the family tradition.

How I discovered my talent.. I found I excelled in Home Ec class with sewing and have always loved to do crafts from cross stitch to rubber stamping and now to vinyl.

My fiver year goal.. Hopefully I will continue to grow and may need to bring on seasonal help to fulfill the orders in my Etsy shop.

The message behind my work.. I like people to be able to use our products and express their individuality.

Get Ready for This Weekend, Fairlawn!

Meet Nick Hardin of Hardin's Family Gardens...
Hi, my name is Nick and I founded Hardin’s Family Gardens. I have a beautiful wife and four beautiful children (two girls 8&7, two boys 5&3). We live in a little town called Wadsworth.

I have always had a passion for plants ever since working for Hirt’s Greenhouse in my early 20’s and stuck with it ever since. We specialize mainly in Live air plants and unique plants you cannot find in big box stores selling mainly online.

We combine air plants and crystals to create a unique center piece or gift while purifying the air and mind. We also strive to make people happy and excited with the work we put in and enjoy creating for you! This is our first year as a vendor attending different events and shows to showcase our awesome ideas.

Meet Kimberly Richling of The 3 Divas...

We started The 3 Divas because we are all moms of teenagers that needed a creative outlet. On top of parenthood, we hold down full-time administrative jobs.  Our jobs sadly do not fulfill our creative flair so our business venture helps to feed that need. We are a fledgling company.  We have been in business only 6 months, though spent the early  part of the year working on the concept. This will be our third event with Avant-Garde and have one more booked this year.

The 3 Divas started out at our local camp ground.  We have been camping there for close to twelve years and our children have grown up together.  Over the years we have experimented with fun activities for the children – face painting, rock painting, pallet painting, Halloween costumes etc.  However, as the children got older we changed to more adult pursuits. A gift from my Aunt set in motion a chain reaction that led to us creating tree charms for each other and we expanded out from there. 

Individually we are all talented and hardworking, though sadly in less than artistic jobs.  Kim draws and paints, Cynthia is a food artist, and I am a DIY enthusiast😊.  The attention to detail and the desire to bring beauty in all its forms to others is what drives us.

Light is our biggest inspiration to create! We love to work with reflective pieces, crystals, glass, metal, and mirrors that draw your eyes to our pieces even when you are not looking directly at them.  Our clients come back and tell us the joy the charms bring them on a daily basis and this motivates to find new forms for these light reflectors.

Originally, our creative process would start with a glass of wine and then good company, now we are a little more disciplined – wine comes at the end of the day! It is still a collaborative process.  We each have our own unique style but we have set principles and QC for each piece so we can ensure they are all top quality no matter which of us create them.

We are looking to balance our Show presence in the spring/summer/fall to build our brand awareness and cement our client base with a solid online presence to ensure a steady flow of orders year round.  Early retirement from our Admin jobs would be the ultimate goal!

We hope to share the message behind our work which is that we all need to stop and breathe through the day to calm our nerves! – our charms catch your eye and cause this little “stop” - Take a little moment in every day to appreciate the light and beauty around us – breathe it in, smile and lift your spirits.

Meet Ali Marie of Everyday Limes...

I am an interior design, crafter/maker and blogger. I have had some form of Etsy shop since almost the beginning of Etsy. My previous shop/blog was called ANiemanDesign. I have been crocheting since I was about 10-11 years old approximately, but as a side hustle, I started an Etsy shop in college back in 2006. This will only be my second Avant-Garde show. Life and my full time job have prevented me from doing more. I hope to change that now.

My mom and step-grandmother were the ones who got me into this craft hobby. My mom was always crafting. My step-grandmother was the one who taught me to crochet first on my fingers. Every time I see something in a new design magazine or on a fashion blog, I always wonder... can I make that? Then I try it! Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. I realized I had a talent when I started making things for people as gifts and they loved them.

My creative process does not usually come swiftly. Sometimes I go through Pinterest, magazines, etc to get inspiration and then craft a pattern, usually by trial and error. I find being a creative person takes a lot of trial and error.  In 5 years I would like to actually have my own store. The vision I have for Everyday Limes is to branch out into more than just crocheted items, but into a home design, fashion and gift shop with all sorts of vintage and handmade items.

I would like my customers to know that I am very into a sustainable way of living. I try to use everything that I can with my projects, from the scraps of yarn for yarn wreaths and pillow stuffing, to recycled packaging. Eventually I hope to branch out to more sustainable, recycled products.

Fall Festive Shopping Coming to Fairlawn!

Meet Alysia Mayerl from Emris and Maple Designs...

Hi, my name is Alysia and I am 29 years old. My husband and I are currently expecting our first child in December. I have an educational and professional background in drama therapeutic and behavioral therapy work. I love all forms of creative, expressive art and the catharsis it can provide to not only the creator but anyone who comes in contact with the art piece. I have been crafting and creating since I was a child and with our baby, nicknamed Maple, on her way, I have been inspired to put my work out in the world. My passion is through various media: jewelry, signs, cards and products inspired by our dog, Emris. This will be my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show and I am very excited to step out of my craft room and into an event full of such talented crafters.

I am inspired by everything. I spend hours on end looking at things and imagining the endless possibilities that I can transform certain items into. I believe creativity is the key to success and I want to be able to show my daughter that creativity comes in many forms.

In about five years time, I would absolutely love to be crafting as a full-time job and inspiring children within the community to be creative and to learn how to embrace their ideas through the arts. Too many people believe they are not creative or talented and I want to encourage people to dive in on those doubts to find that we are all talented in our own unique ways. I believe everyone has a creative talent and if you do not believe you do it may be because YOU haven't invented it yet.

Meet Anne Hauser from Art with a Twist...

Hi, my name is Anne Hauser and I am a mother of 3 adult daughters. I have a degree in commercial art, and I am now finding time to revisit my passion through arts and crafts. I have been creating art for 40 years, but this will be my very first art show that I am going to participate in.

I discovered my talents in my high school art classes.  Receiving an art degree and having children fueled my drive to craft as a hobby.  I am inspired to create by just about everything. Ideas pop in my mind and I test it out until I perfect.

My creative process starts with research, and once something catches my eye, my thought process begins. I then like to take things a little further adding my own twist to it.

In five years I see my business adding income so that I can work part-time some days creating and taking care of my grand-babies  I hope that my customers are able to share in the message of my work which is being able to add a modern twist to something old and worn.
