No Tricks Here! Fairlawn Show is Tomorrow!

Meet Susan Wallace fromThe Moon & the Monarch...

Hi, my name is Suzy & I’m the maker behind The Moon & The Monarch. I started making jewelry alongside my mother in the late 90s. This will be my 1st show with Avant-Garde Art & Craft show!

Over time, my love of jewelry making morphed into custom Dreamcatchers and Crystal Suncatchers. I am completely self taught and love learning new arts & crafts.  Several years ago, I made my 1st chunky-knit blanket & was hooked (even though you don’t use any)! I started teaching workshops & selling them out of my home to friends & family.

My creative process is simple but meaningful. I choose materials that feel good in the hands and bring joy to the home. Whether it’s a cozy throw for a quiet evening or a suncatcher that scatters rainbows across the room, crafting pieces that make people feel grounded, inspired, and at home is what I hope my pieces bring. Everything is entirely made by hand, and many times one of kind! Please stop by to say hello!

Meet Kathy Reed from Unique Think Designs...
My name is Kathy Reed, Owner of Unique Tink Designs. I have been in business for about 7 years and participated in many Avant-Garde shows.
I've dabbled in the creative world my whole life and realized how much I love making jewelry..... Enough to sell!

Thanks to all who bought one or more of my creations.

Meet Daniela Horowitz from Tickle Me Pink Glass...

My name is Dani, and I make stained glass. I love reading, music, coffee, and anything Disney! I have being doing stained glass for about 2 and a half years!

This will be my third Avant-Garde show! I love being a part of their shows, I learn so much.

What inspires me to create.. my family! I love making things that make them smile, and including them in my work.

How I got into the creativity.. Curiosity, mostly! I've always loved looking at stained glass pieces and they were all so beautiful, and I wanted to learn the process myself.

How I discovered my process.. Lots of practice, lots of patience, and even more coffee!

My five year goal.. hopefully with my own studio space for all my glass...My room at home is getting a little too tight!!

Message behind my work.. That we can always have a cute reminder of the things we love wherever we go

Get Ready for This Weekend, Fairlawn!

Meet Nick Hardin of Hardin's Family Gardens...
Hi, my name is Nick and I founded Hardin’s Family Gardens. I have a beautiful wife and four beautiful children (two girls 8&7, two boys 5&3). We live in a little town called Wadsworth.

I have always had a passion for plants ever since working for Hirt’s Greenhouse in my early 20’s and stuck with it ever since. We specialize mainly in Live air plants and unique plants you cannot find in big box stores selling mainly online.

We combine air plants and crystals to create a unique center piece or gift while purifying the air and mind. We also strive to make people happy and excited with the work we put in and enjoy creating for you! This is our first year as a vendor attending different events and shows to showcase our awesome ideas.

Meet Kimberly Richling of The 3 Divas...
We started The 3 Divas because we are all moms of teenagers that needed a creative outlet. On top of parenthood, we hold down full-time administrative jobs.  Our jobs sadly do not fulfill our creative flair so our business venture helps to feed that need. We are a fledgling company.  We have been in business only 6 months, though spent the early  part of the year working on the concept. This will be our third event with Avant-Garde and have one more booked this year.
The 3 Divas started out at our local camp ground.  We have been camping there for close to twelve years and our children have grown up together.  Over the years we have experimented with fun activities for the children – face painting, rock painting, pallet painting, Halloween costumes etc.  However, as the children got older we changed to more adult pursuits. A gift from my Aunt set in motion a chain reaction that led to us creating tree charms for each other and we expanded out from there.

Individually we are all talented and hardworking, though sadly in less than artistic jobs.  Kim draws and paints, Cynthia is a food artist, and I am a DIY enthusiast😊.  The attention to detail and the desire to bring beauty in all its forms to others is what drives us.
Light is our biggest inspiration to create! We love to work with reflective pieces, crystals, glass, metal, and mirrors that draw your eyes to our pieces even when you are not looking directly at them.  Our clients come back and tell us the joy the charms bring them on a daily basis and this motivates to find new forms for these light reflectors.

Originally, our creative process would start with a glass of wine and then good company, now we are a little more disciplined – wine comes at the end of the day! It is still a collaborative process.  We each have our own unique style but we have set principles and QC for each piece so we can ensure they are all top quality no matter which of us create them.

We are looking to balance our Show presence in the spring/summer/fall to build our brand awareness and cement our client base with a solid online presence to ensure a steady flow of orders year round.  Early retirement from our Admin jobs would be the ultimate goal!

We hope to share the message behind our work which is that we all need to stop and breathe through the day to calm our nerves! – our charms catch your eye and cause this little “stop” - Take a little moment in every day to appreciate the light and beauty around us – breathe it in, smile and lift your spirits.

Meet Ali Marie of Everyday Limes...
I am an interior design, crafter/maker and blogger. I have had some form of Etsy shop since almost the beginning of Etsy. My previous shop/blog was called ANiemanDesign. I have been crocheting since I was about 10-11 years old approximately, but as a side hustle, I started an Etsy shop in college back in 2006. This will only be my second Avant-Garde show. Life and my full time job have prevented me from doing more. I hope to change that now.
My mom and step-grandmother were the ones who got me into this craft hobby. My mom was always crafting. My step-grandmother was the one who taught me to crochet first on my fingers. Every time I see something in a new design magazine or on a fashion blog, I always wonder... can I make that? Then I try it! Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. I realized I had a talent when I started making things for people as gifts and they loved them.
My creative process does not usually come swiftly. Sometimes I go through Pinterest, magazines, etc to get inspiration and then craft a pattern, usually by trial and error. I find being a creative person takes a lot of trial and error.  In 5 years I would like to actually have my own store. The vision I have for Everyday Limes is to branch out into more than just crocheted items, but into a home design, fashion and gift shop with all sorts of vintage and handmade items.

I would like my customers to know that I am very into a sustainable way of living. I try to use everything that I can with my projects, from the scraps of yarn for yarn wreaths and pillow stuffing, to recycled packaging. Eventually I hope to branch out to more sustainable, recycled products.

Introducing our Summit County Vendors!

Meet Cindy Crockett from Cindy's Creations...
Hi my name is Cindy Crockett and I've created Cindy's Creations.

I'm 48 years old I've lived in the Akron, Ohio area all my life. I have two rescue dogs, Samantha and Rusty. I call Samantha my double wide because she is unusually wide and Rusty my dust mop because of all of his hair.

I lost my job in 2010 with many other people. I've searched and could not find a job and I was getting worried, then my mother became ill, so my husband and I decided to sell our home and move in the basement and become her caregiver.

I've been making jewelry for 6 months now and I love it. It started out to be something to do to stay home with my mother, and make some money.
How I got started.. I went to Jo-Ann Fabrics and I wondered into the section of beads and saw all types of beads imaginable. My mind went crazy and I was thinking I could make jewelry if I read up on it. Every where I went I was asking questions on how to and what do you use that for? Instead of this being a hobby it is now my obsession. My mother sits and watches me and comments on the beautiful colors and she gets to try everything on to make sure the size is correct and that it lays nicely it is very therapeutic for her.

I have a knack for putting beads together and making something beautiful without really getting ideas they all come from my mind. I see something and I start to play with it and Wham! I just created another new creation!
This isn't something I thought I would be doing but I really enjoy doing it and I enjoy watching the people look at my jewelry and seeing their face get excited about how nice it looks on them, I like being able to create unique jewelry for all types of people and I will continue to do this for years to come.

I've just started out so I have not been to any Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows yet. I'm very excited about doing the 2012 Summit County Winter Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show. It is going to be a great time and a worthy cause and I'm hoping to learn from other crafters and see all the new ideas and their creations. In the mean time I will be doing 16 craft shows before December and I'm hoping I will do well.
God has given me a gift of making jewelry, am I the best in the business? No, but do I enjoy making people happy and seeing their faces glow when trying on my jewelry. This is absolutely why I will continue to grow and enjoy my gift as long as I am able to do so.

Meet Denice Warrington from Designs by Denice...
My name is Denice Warrington and I am a recently retired nurse from the burn unit at Akron Children's Hospital. What started as a hobby and love of crystals, has now turned into a part time business for my company Designs by Denice. The best part about what I do is that I enjoy creating different items for many people.

I have been creating designs for 3 months. I got into my craft when I had spare time once retirement began. This became my craft hobby! I started my own business to share the beauty of what I create with others.

My creative process is very much trial and error. If I see or think of something I may like I try to design it. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not. I also ask my daughter in law who is younger and teaches teenagers, she helps me to figure out what that age group may like. It is important to encompass all age groups with my work, which has opened me to many different designs.

The thing I enjoy the most about creating handmade unique items is the sense of accomplishment in using the gifts God has given me. The message behind my work is enjoy the beauty in life.

Check out these featured vendors at the 2012 Summit County Winter Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show. This show will feature a large selection of talented handmade artisans and crafters. A portion of the show's proceeds will be donated to Jade's No Kill Rescue for animal rescue.
